Each Davis Dyslexia Correction® Program
is tailored to meet the client's individual needs. To
begin, there is an initial assessment that lasts approximately
2 hours. Information will be obtained about the client's perceptual
abilities, needs, goals, and level of motivation. The appropriateness
of the DavisTM Program for the individual will also be determined
at this time.
The Davis Dyslexia Correction® Program begins with the initial
week of intensive one-on-one facilitation which takes
approximately 30 hours including support training for the parent
/tutor. During a program, the client first learns about the
tools of the DavisTM Program. These tools are designed to stop
disorientation. Disorientation, or distorted perception, is
the cause of
confusion, mistakes and frustration. Throughout the program,
the client is guided in applying these tools to improve reading,
writing, math, language or attention difficulties. Programs
are provided for clients 8 years of age up through adult.
The hours are generally 8:30-11:30 and 12:30-3:30 daily
for five consecutive days. Short breaks are taken as necessary
to celebrate accomplishments and to provide rest. Lunch is from
11:30-12:30 pm. Supervised lunch periods are not provided,
therefore, arrangements will need to be made for the client
during this time.
On the final day of the program support training is provided
to the parent, teacher, and/or persons assisting the client
in the ongoing process of symbol mastery.
All necessary take-home materials for follow-up are included.
The follow-up can be achieved within six months. However, a
year and a half is more realistic.
The initial program week is a new start, not a final solution.
Positive change and improvement are expected. This change will
continue as the follow-up is completed.
